The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system. Here, you accomplish the first stage of the breaking up of food for digestion.
When you place food in your mouth, saliva is produced in order to start the the breaking up of food. The tongue and the muscular walls of the mouth are used to move the food around so that it can be chewed thoroughly and, then, shaped into a small piece, which can be moved to the back of the mouth to be swallowed.

Teeth are a vital component of digestion. It is extremely beneficial to health to keep them in good shape. When food is only partially chewed before being swallowed (because of sensitive or misaligned teeth or the lack of teeth altogether), it can result in the food being only partially digested; thus, nutrients don’t enter the body. If vitamins and minerals that promote healthy teeth and gums are not digested enough, further damage to one’s teeth and gums may result, starting a vicious cycle.

There is a way out, and that is careful tooth maintenance. This starts with seeing a professional dental worker. A dentist is someone who is an expert on caring for teeth. He knows what your teeth need to do for you.

Adult teeth consist of incisors, canines, premolars and molars, including the wisdom teeth, which may not emerge until 25 years of age, if at all. By about that time, an adult should have grown a total of thirty-two teeth.

Each type of tooth has a specific function in dealing with food, to process it into smaller pieces that can be easily swallowed and digested. The 4 center front teeth, both on the bottom and the top, are called incisors. They are used to bite, tear and cut food, like when they are used to bite into an apple. The sharp corner teeth are called canines. They tear and bite food. Premolars, the next two teeth in line, are larger but still have sharp ridges. They crush the food. The big teeth at the back, without such sharp ridges, are called molars. They crush and grind food to a paste, fine enough to be easily swallowed and digested.

Developing a healthy life begins with taking care of one’s teeth.

If you’re in the process of selecting a dentist or any other dental service professional such as an orthodontist, there are several factors experts suggest you think about.

When selecting a dentist, it’s amazing how little time and effort many people will put into the process. Lots of people will put much more time into selecting a hair stylist or even repair shop than they will someone to work on their own teeth. However provided how essential and how expensive dental work is, choosing the right dentist with regard to you and your family shouldn’t be taken lightly. Within this article I’ll talk about a few of the factors I made use of in selecting a dentist in Ashburn, Va, which is where i live.

First, I needed to be sure I was looking for the right type of dental provider. Because there are various types along with different areas of specialty, it’s very important you select one who can at least handle the dental work you know you have in the short term. It’s also important that you consider the dental needs of your family if you are selecting a dentist for more than just yourself. Since I was selecting a dentist for myself and my loved ones, which included young kids, I wanted to choose a dental office that could handle all of us.

Next, I wanted to make sure these were covered by our insurance coverage. This can be a complex affair, but I discovered the simplest strategy ended up being to use my insurance organizations web site to conduct my primary searching for Ashburn dentists. Since I knew everyone within their entries was covered by my insurance coverage, this took care of this aspect of my research. However since a lot of insurance web sites don’t have dental listings, this can be a criteria you may have to double check with each dentist in your short list.

Ensuring the dentist I selected had the right accreditations was also essential. This includes making sure they have the proper degrees and are associated with the proper dental institutions. The primary dental institution for dentists is the American Dental Association (ADA).

Closeness to where you live certainly is important to selecting any kind of service provider. Now what exactly defines ‘proximity’ really depends on the area you live in, however in my particular case, there are many Ashburn dental providers so I had plenty to choose from. If you live in a much more rural area you’ll need to decide how far you’re really prepared to drive to go to the dentist. However provided the importance of dental work and the infrequency of the appointments, many people are willing to drive a little farther to go to the best dentist.

You can check local area web entries to find dentists in your area. “Yellow Pages” has practically been replaced by larger online business sites as well as much more accurate local ones. Numerous business directories for your town or community will have entries for dentists, and you can also use Google Maps to see how close they are to where you live.

Finally, as soon as I had a list of dentist that met all the specifications described, we turned to checking referrals. We have lots of neighbors with kids, and it was simple to ask around to see if any were current patients of the dentists I was considering. The dentist we ended up selecting was actually a very popular dentist with a number of our close friends. Getting referrals most likely provides you with as much comfort and ease as anything with regards to selecting a dentist.

Sensitive teeth or toothaches can cause major discomfort to your everyday living. Keeping away from foods just because they cause pain or sensitivity is no way to live comfortably. For this reason, through a dental expert, patients with such problems are customarily dealt with aptly.

There are more than numerous causes for toothaches and sensitive teeth – generally the decay of the tooth with the nerve showing or the gum receding to such a degree that various different foods can cause painful sensitivity.

Tooth filling, Root Canals, Crowns, Tooth Sealant, Onlays, and all manner of Dental Hygiene Procedures etc., are routine operations carried out by your dental expert.

Deterioration of a tooth can show up without warning, and from time to time, when pain strikes, the decay has gone too deep into the tooth, causing major damage and thus requiring major treatment. It’s completely possible that this could have been avoided by having gone to see your dental expert beforehand, so that he could spot the decay at an early stage and deal with it cheaply and effectively.

We recommend that you see your dental expert regularly to ensure your teeth remain in good condition and do not decay. Dental surgeons nowadays highly recommend Preventative Dentistry.

What is Preventative Dentistry?

It is used to help each of us preserve our teeth and gums healthy and so to prevent you from making unnecessary visits to the dentist, for fillings or other operations.

Most foodstuff in modern society contain sugar, which causes tooth decay, so it is vitally important that you take the necessary preventative measures for your teeth to stay in optimum condition. Things such as brushing your teeth, using floss, chewing gum and rinsing your mouth with mouth-wash all help in prevent any decay of your teeth.

Also, with so much sugar on the market, bad breath is a major problem in today’s society. Bad breath, on many occasions, is caused by food remaining in the mouth – on the teeth, tongue, and gums. Bacteria then feast on it. Dead and dying bacterial cells then give your breath an unpleasant odor.

Brushing your teeth, rinsing your mouth, or chewing some sugar-free gum, after you have eaten, goes a long way toward preventing bad breath and tooth decay.

We are what we eat. You have probably heard that saying before and it is completely true. If you eat lots of fatty foods, chances are you will have a high blood pressure. If you eat lots of foods and do not exercise, chances are you are overweight. It goes the same with our teeth. There are many types of foods that have a direct impact on the health of our teeth. Dental experts like Dr. Jonathan Hartley advice the public to be careful with our food choices as these can either make or break our teeth.

Years ago when we were still small children, we are very fond of candies and almost anything that is sweet and colorful. We love eating cakes, licking on lollipops, drinking soft drinks, and slurping on tall glasses of milkshakes. Those were fun foods, but as we grow older we realize that eating too many sweets is not healthy, especially for our teeth. We start to suffer from tooth decay and even tooth loss because of all those sugar we have eaten.

Keeping our teeth in great condition should be our priority and it is fairly easy to do. Regular teeth brushing is what all dentists recommend. Often a twice a day brushing is fine, however for the best results, you should brush after each meal. This is to keep all the remaining small pieces of food from staying longer in our mouths and in between our teeth.

The thing is sometimes brushing alone is not enough. We need to add flossing to our arsenal of dental hygiene. But the sad part is that flossing is not something that most of us are fond of doing. We tend to see it as too tasking and time consuming. It’s just not fun to floss. But if we want to have a really clean mouth and teeth, we need to learn how to floss.

Do you think brushing and flossing are enough to maintain the health of our teeth and gums? If you answer no, then you are correct. We should also be eating only healthy foods and drinking healthy drinks. And stay away from too much sugar as often as possible. Dentists like Dr. Jonathan Hartley believes that there are certain types of foods that are good for our teeth.

The following are some of the foods that we should be eating:

Cheese and plain yogurt, chicken and other meats, raw vegetables such as carrot and celery sticks, nuts, and plain crisps.

Take in as much foods as you can that are rich in calcium. There is a good reason why calcium can often be found in our toothpaste.

These are the drinks that we should be drinking more of:

Unsweetened tea, water with fluoride added, and milk. While milk is good, drinking it just when you are about to lie in bed is not a good thing. If you feel that a warm glass of milk is necessary to help you sleep, brush your teeth after you are done drinking your milk.

It is quite obvious in this list of drinks is the absence of sugar. Maybe not complete lack of sugar, but at least lessen your sugar intake. Sugar is known to speed up the process of teeth decay and it is a favorite food of bacteria. So if you eat lots of sugary foods and you fail to brush regularly, expect to have ugly teeth and a bad breath.

Dr. Jonathan Hartley and other dentists strongly recommends that you follow the basic steps of daily oral hygiene. That is to brush at least twice a day, floss, and also to eat the right kind of foods. When you do everything regularly it will become a habit and it will be easier for you to maintain your teeth.
