It was once said that the eyes are the windows to our soul. Therefore a pair of good and healthy eyes shows that our body is in perfect condition as a whole. At least that is what people will perceive. For one thing we can tell how others are feeling just by looking at their eyes. Droopy eyes tell us that person is lacking sleep. Eyes with dark circles tell us the person needs to take a break and relax. But a pair of red shot eyes, that can mean a lot of things. What all of these point to is the importance of keeping our eyes healthy. And that is actually easy to do even by using some eye exercises.

Do you know anybody who is completely blind? Have you ever imagined yourself going blind and not seeing the beautiful world around you? We should always be grateful that we have the ability to see and that our eyes are working perfectly, allowing us to do the things that we love to do day in and day out. That is why it is necessary that we should always take good care of our eyes and to never take them for granted.

Here are some good tips that you should follow to help you have healthy eyes.

One of the top vitamins that your body needs to have a good eyesight is vitamin A. In case you have heard of night blindness, that is just among the many eye conditions that you can prevent just by taking a regular supply of vitamin A. The best sources are vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots and celery. Of course you can always take a supplement to augment your vitamin A deficiency but going natural is still a better choice.

It is always a good idea to eat as many green vegetables as you can. Think of broccoli, spinach, green beans and many others whenever you are going to plan your meals. By using these vegetables, you are putting as much vitamins and minerals that your body actually requires. Green vegetables are also rich in antioxidants which can help in fighting off the free radicals. The latter can wreck havoc to our healthy cells, including those in our eyes. So always put a green vegetable or two in every meal that you eat.

There are other foods that are rich in substances that are excellent in fighting off the free radicals and these are high in selenium and zinc. Some of the foods that you should be eating are rice, milk, tuna and nuts just to name a few. In case you have an allergy to any of these foods, you can always take supplements.

When you are working for a long period of time, take a little time off for your eyes. It is also better if you can do an eye exercise after a few minutes just to avoid getting eye strain. You can move your eyes from top to bottom repeatedly or just stare at a relaxing color or view. This will also help you release stress from the daily grinds of your work.

Always take a break and rest your eyes more often. Whatever work you do, especially if you are staring at a computer monitor most of the time, you must relax your eyes so as to avoid getting eye strain or those red and puffy eyes. Just closing your eyes for a few minutes is a good way to do this.
